Hard Chrome Plating
At the heart of Power Engineering’s business is Industrial Hard Chrome Plating. Chrome plating is accomplished through an electrochemical reaction. A low DC voltage is applied between electrodes and the part being plated while submerged in chromic acid plating solution. Chromium ions are driven from the solution and deposited onto the part.
Hard chrome plated surfaces can withstand the most rigorous demands of heavy duty industrial machinery. Chromium exhibits very high hardness, low coefficient of friction, and excellent corrosion resistance. Chromium, with its high bond strength and extreme wear resistance, is the ideal material to restore worn or damaged surfaces. These surfaces may be finish ground and polished to original specifications.
Our plating tanks operate 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. Tanks are up to 1600 working gallons (6000 liters). Chromic acid solutions in our tanks are analyzed on a weekly basis by a full-time chemist. Our chemist tests for imbalances and impurities in the solution, adds chromium, adjusts the catalyst and calls for purification or replacement of the solution as needed.
